Obituary for Jim Rosenow

Jim Rosenow passed away on December 12, 2014 from the cumulative effects of Alzheimer’s dementia. He was residing most recently at Grace Living Center, a nursing home in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He had also spent 18 months at the Renaissance of Ponca City assisted living facility. Jim was 71 years old. He was the son of the late Lester W. and Henrietta k. (Lettner) Rosenow. Jim never married. His immediate survivors are his brother Douglas W. Rosenow, daughter-in-law Chanram Rosenow, both of Pleasantville, New York, and nephew Michael D. Rosenow of Arlington, Virginia.

Jim grew up in Fountain City, Wisconsin. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic School through the 8th grade and graduated from Cochrane-Fountain City High School in 1961. He attended The University of Wisconsin at Madison, receiving his B.S. Degree in Chemistry in 1965. After college he moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma to begin a 29-year career as a chemist in the Technical Services Laboratory at the local Conoco refinery. He held various technologist and consultant position, and spent two years in England on assignment to the Humber refinery. During his career he developed expertise in the blending of lubricants and had extensive experience in water chemistry and water treatment. After retirement in 1994, he continued to reside in Ponca City.

Jim involved himself in a number of community activities. As a member of the Toastmasters Club he received various awards, including Mr. Toastmaster, was Club President for two years, and represented the Ponca City chapter at area competitions. While a member of the Ponca Playhouse he acted in plays and constructed sets for play productions. He served as a member of the Ponca City Parks and Recreation Board for four years. For two years he was the President of the American Field Service Student Exchange Scholarships program. He was also a delivery volunteer for the Meals-on-Wheels program for many years.

Jim had a broad variety of hobbies, including hiking/backpacking, walking, bike riding, golf, stamp collecting, antiques, sports cars, photography, reading, listening to music, vegetable gardening and providing help to his friends and neighbors. He has hiked most of the Continental Divide trails of Colorado, Wyoming and Montana. He has also hiked the Grand Canyon from its South Rim to its North Rim and back. During his assignment in England, he became interested in British stamps and his collecting efforts concentrated on them. Many of his antique tableware and furniture items were handed down from his parents and grandparents. His favorite sports cars were Mustangs and Corvettes of which he owned several. From his vegetable garden he was especially proud of the tomatoes he grew.

Jim departed from his friends, relatives and neighbors far too son and he will be missed by all who knew him.

A visitation will be held from 6-8PM Thursday, December 18, 2014 and funeral services to be held at 10:00AM Friday, December 19, 2014 in the Chapel at Trout Funeral Home & Crematory with Deacon Dick Robinson of St. Mary’s Catholic Church officiating.
