Ponca City Now - July 6, 2015 12:00 am
Jessie Grace (Miller) Peters entered into God’s eternal care on June 28, 2015 surrounded by her loved ones in her home in Norman, OK. Jessie was born on July 20, 1927 in Blackwell, OK to Minnie Mae (Davis) Miller and Everett Harrison Miller. Jessie grew up in Blackwell and attended school there, graduating from Blackwell Oklahoma High School on May 21, 1946.
She married the love of her life, Ernest William Peters, on May 16, 1946 after he returned from serving in the United States Army as a tank commander in World War II. Their loving marriage lasted 63 years until he passed away in 2009.
They moved to Stillwater where Ernest attended Oklahoma State University on the GI Bill and Jessie worked in a local drug store making ice cream sodas that were very popular with the students. She and Ernest had many close, cherished friends that they stayed in contact with over the years. After Ernest graduated, he was hired as an electrician for Continental Oil Company and the couple moved to Ponca City. In 1953, they were blessed with a daughter, Kathleen Marie. Six years later, another daughter, Karen Sue, was born. Jessie was totally dedicated to her family and worked tirelessly to care for them. She was a wonderful cook and an accomplished seamstress, making many of the girls’ clothes, including a beautiful wedding dress and all the bridesmaids’ dresses for Kathleen’s wedding. Jessie and Ernest were devoted to each other and rarely disagreed. They were founding members of the Northeast Baptist Church in Ponca City and supported the church and its ministries. She was a true believer in her Lord Jesus Christ and placed her faith in Him. In 2006, Jessie and Ernest relocated to Norman, OK when declining health led them to move closer to their daughters. Jessie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, daughter Kathleen, and six siblings.
She is survived by her sister, Madeline Miller, her brother, Bill Miller and wife Audery, her daughter, Karen Saunkeah and husband Tom, grandson, Joshua Baker and wife Channing, grandson, Peter Baker and wife Tessa, and great-grandchildren Megan, Adrienna, Devon, Logan, Katie, Tiaunna, Jasmine, James, Mercedes, Paige, and a new baby in November.
Jessie is being cared for by Trout Funeral Home & Crematory in Ponca City, OK.
