Jerry Wayne Oard
(July 17, 1956 – January 24, 2017)
Jerry Wayne Oard was born on July 17, 1956, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Billy Joe Oard and wife Marilyn (McCulley) Oard. He passed from this life into eternal peace at Bass Hospital in Enid, Oklahoma, on Tuesday, January 24, 2017, at the age of 60 years.
Jerry attended Blackwell Public Schools and graduated in May of 1974, the same day as his grandmother, Mabel McCulley. He enjoyed working with his father and brother on the family farm south of Braman, Oklahoma. Following graduation, Jerry moved to California to work at Smith Tools. After four years, he returned to Blackwell to join the post office as a mail carrier. Many remember him carrying strawberry candies for the children along his route, and there were treats for the customer’s dogs also. On retirement from postal work, Jerry joined his father in Oard and Sons Lawn Care. Jerry spent many hours keeping the Blackwell ball fields in top shape. His other love was following the Blackwell Maroon Wrestling teams, traveling often to out-of-town and out-of-state matches. The team awarded him the “Blackwell Maroon Wrestlers Number One Fan.” In appreciation for his support.
Jerry volunteered and participated in the Blackwell Jaycees, the Blackwell Baseball Association, and Maroon Wrestling Club. His hobbies included fishing, golf, and “buggy rides to the farm.”
He is survived by his brother, Dale Oard and his wife Kim; his nephew, Dewey Oard and wife Katheryn, all of Blackwell; aunts, Garnet Barton of Eugene, Oregon, and Rosemary (McCulley) and husband Jack Pierce of Phoenix, Arizona, “Aunts” Jacque Graham and Younghee Higgins; as well as many cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandparents, Clarence and Gertie (Silver) Oard and Hardie and Mabel McCulley; aunts and uncles, Lenore and Jack Higgins, Evelyn and Gene Smith, Gwendyne and Bob Fisher, Gwendolyn and Otis Shellstede, Madelyn and O. B. Miracle; and cousins, Jack Lenord Higgins, Hardie Mack Higgins and Larry Smith.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 28th in the First Christian Church in Blackwell with Rev. Jeff Koch officiating.
Honorary casketbearers will be Dewey Oard, Lynn Courtney, Les Courtney, Shane Courtney, Cole Courtney and Todd Spence.
