Obituary for Jeanne Ballard

Jeanne Schreckengost Ballard, resident of Ponca City, OK, age 87, passed away Monday, February 10, 2014, at Via Christi Village Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30AM Friday, February 14, 2014 at the Providence Baptist Church, 1301 East Bradley Avenue, Ponca City with Reverend Kevin Grant officiating. Burial will then follow at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Ponca City.

Jeanne was born in Ponca City on September 28, 1926, the third of four children to Charles Leroy and Bessie Pearl (Clark) Schreckengost. Shortly thereafter, her parents moved to Crescent, Oklahoma where she graduated from high school. On September 20, 1944 she married Jack Leroy Ballard. This union bore six children. Her husband Jack passed away on January 19, 1986.

Jeanne enjoyed crocheting baby blankets, some of which have been sent around the world. She also loved doing crossword puzzles, telling jokes and was an excellent cook. Jeanne was a charter member of the Southside Baptist Church, which later became Providence Baptist Church. Reading her bible was a daily habit. Grandchildren were an especially important part of her life. She adored each of them.

Jeanne Ballard is survived by her children: Betty Barnett and husband Wendell McGarvin; Phillip Ballard and wife Tamara; Jacque O’Grady and husband David, all of Ponca City; daughter in law: Barbara Brownfield and husband Kelly; grandchildren: Bobby Keys; Benita Gronek; Benny Gronek; Kenny Brownfield; Danny Barnett; Jeremy Barnett; Phillip Ballard, Jr.; Jessica Ribble; Raechel Thacker; Lauren Boyd; 13 great grandchildren, numerous nieces nephews, cousins and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, children: Michael Ballard, Wayne Ballard and Patricia Gronek; son in law: Gary Barnett; sisters: Ruth Stark and Betty Jo Kostelic; brother: Kenneth Schreckengost; and grandson: Scotty Brownfield.
