Obituary for James Silks

James Silks, resident of Ponca City, OK, passed away June 4, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. He was 68.
A service will be held at 10:00 a.m., June 9, 2014 at the Lamont Christian Church with Rev. Jeffnick Reynolds officiating. Burial will then follow at the Lamont Cemetery in Lamont, OK. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will take place at Anderson Funeral Home in Tonkawa on Friday from 1pm-4pm, Saturday 9-8 p.m. and Sunday 1pm-8pm. The family will greet friends at Anderson Funeral Home on Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m.
James was born on June 26, 1945 to Jesse Edward and Phoebe Jane (Hair) Silks in Blackwell, OK. He was married to Kathyrn Lorene (Lambert) Silks on January 14, 1977 in Lamont, OK. They were blessed with 36 years of marriage, four children and many "adopted" children. In 1966 he proudly accepted his draft letter to serve with the United States Army in Vietnam for 2 years. He was a member of the Sheet Metal Union for 36 years. Dad was blessed with many life long friends across the country. He positively impacted the lives of everyone he met. In this life he served the lord by changing the lives of many that were lost.
James was a loving father and husband. He absolutely adored his grandchildren and enjoyed every minute he was able to spend with them. There was never a project that he couldn’t master and his family will always remember one of his favorite quotes, "There is no shame in a workingman getting his hands dirty." James loved to travel. He and Kathryn made many wonderful memories in Brazil which became a one of his favorite destinations. James is greatly loved and will be missed in the lives of many.
He is survived by wife, Kathyrn, children; Dustin Silks of Denver, Co, Casey Hoemann, and husband Brock of Tonkawa, OK, Joey Silks and wife Beth of Lamont, OK, Buffy Layman and husband Jay of Ponca City, OK, and Jesse Hodges of Ponca City, OK; grandchildren, Blake Hoemann, Emily Hoemann, Blane Hoemann, Dawson Silks, Jaxson Silks, Addison Silks, Brendon Layman, Carter Layman, Tayber Reaves, Dylan Reaves, Megan Hodges, Shelby Hodges, Hallie Hodges, Sevanna Hodges, and Jessen Hodges. And many nieces and nephews dear to his heart.
Preceded in death by his parents and three sibling; Judy Hodges, Janet Rowan and John Silks.
Casketbearers will be Dustin Silks, Joey Silks, Jesse Hodges, Brock Hoemann, Jay Layman, John Silks, Blake Hoemann and Leonard Mendes. Honorary casketbearers will be Blane Hoemann, Brendon Layman, Carter Layman, Tayber Reaves, Dylan Reaves, Dawson Silks, Jaxson Silks, Jessen Hodges.
An educational fund for James’ grandchildren has been established at First Nation Bank of Tonkawa, 101 W Grand Ave, Tonkawa, OK, US, 74653 for memorial contributions.
