James (Jim) Adair

August 14, 1930 — December 18, 2024

James (Jim) Edward Adair, of Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed away on December 18, 2024. He was 94 years of age.

Services will be held Monday, December 23, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Grace Memorial Chapel in Ponca City, Oklahoma with Pastor Sondra Ladd of First Christian Church, Stillwater, Oklahoma officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, December 22, 2024, at Grace Memorial Chapel from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Private burial will be at a later date.

Jim was born August 14, 1930, to Orien Barton and Ida (Smith) Adair in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was baptized on September 1, 1940, at the age of 10. He was a 1948 graduate of Shidler High School. After graduation, he was drafted into the Army and was stationed in the United States, Canada, and Germany. His primary responsibility was being a decoder during the Cold War era.

Jim and Bertha (Baker) Adair were married on July 31, 1954. They made their home in Shidler, Oklahoma until moving to Ponca City, Oklahoma in 2005. They were married for 67 years.

Jim worked in the oil field for multiple companies throughout the years until his retirement in 2012 at the age of 80. His retirement was due to his wife, Bertha, being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. He lovingly cared for her until her passing in 2021.

Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, gardening, and running. He also volunteered for Hospice of North Central Oklahoma.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are two sons Mark Adair of Denison, Texas and Barton Adair and wife, Carla, of Stillwater, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Lauren (Adair) Myers and husband Paul, Leann (Adair) Mendenhall and husband Cody, Hayden Adair, and Kaleah Adair; four great-grandchildren, Landen, Bennett, and Katie Myers, and Cora Mendenhall.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bertha; and brothers, Barton, Robert, and Gerald Adair.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 445 Fairview, Ponca City, Oklahoma 74601.
