Obituary for Jack Cutler

Jack Cutler, age 78, long-time resident of Ponca City passed away on January 27, 2014 at St. John’s hospital in Tulsa after suffering from a fall at his home.

Jack was born May 22, 1935 in Houston, TX. He was the son of Jack Cutler Sr. and Clara Alice (Land) Cutler. He was a graduate of Giddings High School in Giddings, TX and attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. He came to Oklahoma in 1955 with his family.

Jack’s early career included various jobs in the family businesses, one being a rodeo pickup man for the Jack Cutler Rodeo in Giddings, TX, working in the Drumright funeral home, plowing fields for local farmers and rodeo announcing. Jack began his career at John Morrell Packing Plant in Arkansas City, KS in 1960. He worked his way up at the plant by working all positions and retired as the Plant Assistant Superintendent.

In 1955, while at a dance at Jumps Roller Rink in Fairfax, OK, he met the love of his life, Betty Young. After the first dance, Jack knew she was the one, and asked her to marry him. Three months later they were married in Fairfax and began their 58 years of life together. To this union was born three wonderful daughters, Katy, Jackie and Betty Faye. The girls were the apple of their Daddy’s eye. Jack was very involved in every aspect of the girls’ lives including teaching Katy how to ride and care for her horse, teaching Jackie how to twirl a baton and inspiring the love the outdoors for Betty Faye. He never missed an activity his girls were involved in and was their greatest supporter.

The most important thing to Jack was his family, faith and friends. Jack was an active member of the First Church of God, where he enjoyed teaching Sunday school and supporting the youth. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Shriners where he and Betty enjoyed attending the Potentate Balls. He also enjoyed mentoring young men from the American Legion Home. His hobbies included playing cards, horseback riding and golf. One of Jack’s greatest loves was his dogs, whether being purchased from the Humane Society or picking up a stray. At one time he had as many as 8 and he enjoyed each and every one of them. He was loyal supporter of the 101 Ranch Rodeo and never missed a performance. The Rodeo Foundation honored Jack and Betty in 2011 as their Grand Marshals.

Jack is survived by his wife; daughters, Katy and husband Greg Art of Clearwater, FL; Jackie and husband Scott Ingram of Ponca City, OK; and Betty Faye and husband Al Kosley of Cypress, TX; 8 grandchildren (which he gave each a special nickname); Abby (Bear) and Daniel (Rocky) Lackey; Ashley (Lovie) and Jay Silbermann; Andrew (Beau) Art; Amanda (Sugars) Ingram and fiancé Jason (Babydoll) Rogers; Chase (Cowboy) Ingram and fiancé Jade (Jewel) Coble; Alex (Tuffy) Kosley, Austin (Tex) Kosley, and Grace (Tiny) Kosley. Also 2 great-grandchildren, Jack Lackey and Adeigh (Buttons) Ingram, special cousin Margaret Lunsford, numerous nieces and nephews, and his special dog Lexie. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Patsy Ann Bartlett and grandson Thomas Gregory Art.

Pallbearers will be Chase Ingram, Andrew Art, Alex Kosley, Austin Kosley, Daniel Lackey, Jay Silbermann, Jason Rogers and Nick Hall. Honorary Pallbearers will be Margaret Lunsford, Mae McClaskey, Mary Tapp, Arlie Edge and Bert Sober. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., February 1, 2014 at the Trout Funeral Home Chapel, 505 W. Grand, Ponca City, OK, with Pastor Jay Clapp officiating. Burial will follow at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Ponca City, OK. Visitation will be from 6 – 7 p.m. Friday at the Trout Funeral Home Chapel.
