Obituary for J.D. Duncan

J.D. Duncan of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Friday morning, May 15, 2015, in the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home at the age of 90 years.
J.D. Duncan was born on June 7, 1924, in Hiawasse, Arkansas, to James Blain and Ellen (Jameson) Duncan. He joined the United States Army on January 19, 1943, and served in the European front and was honorable discharged on December 23, 1945. Upon retiring from the military, he worked for the Blackwell Zinc Foundry for over 20 years. He married Ruby Marie Crowell on June 8, 1957, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, and she preceded him in death on October 10, 1982. After leaving the Blackwell Zinc Smelter, He was the owner/operator of Bunns Service Station until closing in 1981. He then worked for Kay County until retiring in the mid 1980’s. He married Betty Sue Morgan on February 14, 1986, in Blackwell, Oklahoma. They enjoyed their retirement by traveling in their motorhome. He was a volunteer at the Blackwell Regional Hospital, held memberships in IOOF, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Elks Lodge, and supported and helped the FFA. He enjoyed hunting ducks and geese, playing cards and dancing. His friends, family and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren were very important to him.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Sue Duncan, of Blackwell, Oklahoma; three daughters, Jody Chasteen and husband Bob of Nashville, Tennessee, Launa Ashby of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Tamie Young and husband Olen of Ponca City, Oklahoma; two sons, Ron Crowell of Peckham, Oklahoma, and Darryl Duncan and wife Carmen of Ponca City, Oklahoma; one brother, Kenny Duncan of Arkansas; thirteen grandchildren, Keith Boyer, Troy Crowell, Rusty Crowell, Shawn Crowell, Kody Crowell, Chase Crowell, Kendall Duncan, Jacob Duncan, Jason Drahosh, Josef Drahosh, Levi Drahosh, Brian Chasteen and Leigh Ann Young; and thirteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Karen Boyer McKee; one son, J.C. Duncan; one sister and five brothers.
Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Monday, May 18, 2015, in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel, Blackwell, Oklahoma, with Rev Cap McIlnay, First United Methodist Church, Blackwell, Oklahoma, officiating. Burial will follow at the Blackwell Cemetery. Military rights will be provided by the United States Army.
