Iva Mae Sitterly
June 14, 1918 – March 5, 2016
Iva Mae Sitterly, a longtime Ponca City resident, passed away peacefully Saturday at her home; her family was at her side. Iva was born to Henry R. Ripley and Lottie (Hardzog) Ripley in Fletcher, Oklahoma on June 14, 1918. She was 97 years of age.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at Woodlands Christian Church. Pastors Mark Pointer and Loma Sullivan will officiate. Interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at Fairfax Cemetery in Fairfax, Oklahoma. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 8, 2016 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends and relatives from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ponca City, Oklahoma.
The family has asked that Memorial Contributions be made in Iva Mae Sitterly’s name to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, Inc., 445 Fairview Avenue, Ponca City, OK 74601
Iva moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma in 1926, attending grade school, high school, and Bartlesville Business College. After graduation, she worked at Dufford’s Cleaners as a bookkeeper. She moved to Joplin, Missouri for a short time, where she worked for the Chamber of Commerce.
She married Raymond F. Sitterly on September 14, 1941 in Bartlesville. They had two sons, Philip Ray and Rickey Lee, and one daughter, Trudy Ann.
During World War II, she worked for a short time at the air base in Independence, Kansas. She then went to work for Reda Pump in Bartlesville. After the war, she lived in Shidler, Oklahoma; Towanda, Kansas; and Lyons, Kansas. She moved to Ponca City with her husband in 1978. While living in Kansas, she worked for David’s in Wichita and J.C. Penny’s in Lyons. While living in Ponca City, she worked for Walmart for 25 years. She was a member of the Woodlands Christian Church community, and she greatly enjoyed crafting and traveling.
Iva’s survivors include son Philip Sitterly and wife Cheryl, of Ponca City; daughter Trudy Smith and husband Orvil, of Louisville, Kentucky; grandson Kevin Sitterly, of Ponca City; grandson Keith Sitterly and wife Ania, of Redondo Beach, California; grandson Eric Smith, of Singapore; granddaughter Lori Mattingly and husband Bill, of Louisville; great-granddaughter Kelsi Sitterly, of Ponca City; great-grandson Cameron Cooper, of Louisville; great-granddaughter Taylor Cooper, of Louisville; sister-in-law Sandra Pointer, of Avant, Oklahoma; and sister-in-law Mary Sitterly, of Ponca City. Also surviving is an extended family of nieces and nephews.
Iva was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Lottie; her husband Raymond, in 1984; her son Rickey Lee; and her three brothers, Earnest Ripley, J.R. Pointer, and Wayne Pointer.
