Howard "Sam" LeRoy Potter

(November 29, 1957 – May 22, 2016)

Sam (Howard LeRoy) Potter, longtime Osage County resident, passed away on May 22, 2016 at the age of 58 at Shawn Manor Nursing Home with his wife by his side. Sam fought a good fight battling a 7 ½ year illness.

Sam was born on November 29,1957 to LeRoy E. Potter and Patsy Cutler Potter Bartlett in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Sam grew up in Osage County and graduated from Ponca City High School in 1976. Sam’s love for the Osage began at a very young age and continued throughout his life. He was a man of many talents and took great pride in being a self-taught electrician. He could look at any project and find a solution. Sam loved the outdoors, having horses, cattle, and Great Pyrenees dogs. Many times you could find Sam leaning against a tree having a cold one and watching a beautiful sunset with Donna.

Being the electrician, Sam met the love of his life while helping a friend with a porch light. At which time, the friend’s sister "Donna" looked out the window and asked “Who is that, he intrigues me?" For the next thirteen years, he continued to intrigue her every day. On October 6, 2007, Sam and Donna were married at their home and at which time he gained his daughter, Elexas. He started his career at Mertz that lasted fifteen years before moving to the Ponca City Hospital and working in the maintenance department as an electrician for several more years. He then transitioned to Bliss Industries LLCA, where he remained until his illness in 2008.

Sam is survived by his wife (Donna) of the home and daughter, Elexas Nicole Potter of Ponca City; father, LeRoy E. Potter of Claremore; mother-n-law, Willetta Horinek of Newkirk; brother-n-laws, Steve (Amy) Horinek and Curtis (Connie) Horinek of Kildare; sister-n-laws, Vickie Hensley of Sedgwick, Kansas; Connie Stinson of Newkirk; aunt, Betty Cutler of Newkirk; cousins, Katy (Greg) Art of Clearwater, Florida; Jackie (Scott) Ingram of Ponca City; and Al Kosley of Cypress, Texas and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Patsy Bartlett; his beloved grandparents, Jack Sr. and Clara Cutler; father-n-law Victor Horinek; brother-n-law, Monte Hensley; uncle, Jack Cutler; and cousin Betty Faye Kosley.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bliss Industries LLC and Shawn Manor employees.
