Gilbert Henry Rippe of Newkirk, Oklahoma was born on June 12, 1948 and left this earth for his heavenly home on April 9, 2024. He was 75 years old.
Gilbert was the son of Edwin and Malinda Rippe. He grew up loving the country life and tormenting his little sissy, Joyce. He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church Missouri-Synod. He graduated from Newkirk High School in 1966 and then attended Oklahoma State University. He remained a Cowboys fan, forever loyal and true. While in college, he took the oath to join the Army National Guard and left for boot camp in California. Upon completion of camp, he remained in service of the Army for 5 years until the time he was honorably discharged as a Sargent.
On June 1, 1968, he married Gwenlyn Simmons, the love of his life, and they made their home together east of Newkirk. During their 55 years of marriage, they custom harvested, ranched and had a family, consisting of two children, Denys and Tanner. Gilbert had a passion for horses and cattle. He spent his life working in the agriculture industry that was most certainly the only way of life for him.
He is survived by his wife, Gwenlyn, children Denys and Tanner as well as his sister and brother-in-law Joyce and Ron. He leaves behind nine grandchildren, Nathan, Courtney, Tiffani, Spencer, Timothy, Matthew, Layne, Shane, and Brock. He also had eight great grandchildren, Sage, Demi, Benton, Brinleigh, Blakelin, Beckham, Raelee, and Teagan, as well as his niece Melissa and nephew Tyler.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents and one son-in-law.
Services for Gilbert will be held at St John’s Lutheran Church in Newkirk, OK, 2:00 p.m. on April 16, 2024.
