George Lafayette Hendrix, 90, of Ponca City, OK, left this life on Sunday, October 13, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Viewing will be held at Trout Funeral Home between 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, October 16, 2024, with the family present between 5:00 and 7:00. A Funeral Ceremony will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, October 17, 2024 at Trout Funeral Home Chapel. George was born on August 8, 1934, to William Henry and Pearl (Jenkins) Hendrix, about one mile North of Arapaho, OK. He lived in the Arapaho area except for 6 months when the family moved to California. When he started school, he attended Arapaho school until the last 6 weeks of the 5th grade. The family then moved to Chapel Hill East of Clinton, OK, where he finished the school year. He moved in 1947, with his family, to Custer City, OK, where he finished his remaining school years, graduating in 1952. Those were the most memorable and great memories were created. During this time, he made many long-lasting friendships. George worked after school as a Daily Oklahoman and Oklahoma City Times carrier. He also worked in the drug store as a clerk and fountain/soda jerk. He also worked in a garage, where he loved being a mechanic.

George joined the United States Air Force in the winter of 1952, where he served for 22 1/2 years. During this time, he met Millie Mae Richardson from Thomas, OK, and they were married in 1954. Their family grew as they traveled and served at Ft Worth, TX, Wichita Falls, TX, two tour at Altus, OK, and Loring, ME, before retiring in Dayton, OH. The family moved back to Altus after retiring from the military. He worked at Arkla Gas Co as a dispatcher and worked on house calls before retiring in 1996. They then moved to Lexington, OK, where they lived until moving to Ponca City, OK, in 2007, to be closer to family.

During the 1980’s, George and Millie took up motorcycling, and toured all lower 48 states; pulling a little trailer behind them and camping most of the time. They did this in 4 years, planning different directions to travel while on 2 week vacations. In later years, George and Millie enjoyed camping in their motor home and pulling their motorcycles. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church, Retread Motorcycle Club, and the American Motorcycle Association.

George is survived by: his wife, Millie, of the home; sons, Gary Hendrix and his wife, Audrey, of Ponca City, OK, Steve Hendrix and his wife, Raylene, of Pond Creek, OK; daughters, Donna Frieszell and her husband, Dave, of Moody, TX; Sharon Foreman and her husband, Rick, of Trenton, TX; brothers, Richard Hendrix of Wichita Falls, TX, Bill Hendrix of Elk Grove, CA; sister, Ruby of Lyndon, KS; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins; other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by: his parents, a baby brother and grandparents.
