Fredrick “Fred” Lee Williamson of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Thursday morning, February 7, 2019, at his home at the age of 81 years.
Fred Williamson was born on May 17, 1937, in Blackwell to Charles Warren and Edna Marie (Mickey) Williamson. He grew up in Blackwell and graduated with the Class of 1955. He furthered his education by attending Northern Oklahoma Junior College in Tonkawa. In 1957, he began working in the pattern shop at Acme Foundry as well as working with his father making patterns for Blackwell Pattern Works. He married Kaye Dunger on April 26, 1958, and they made Blackwell their home. Fred later worked for and retired from Kay County.
Fred worked as a football, basketball and baseball official for over thirty years, calling both junior and high school games throughout Northern Oklahoma. He enjoyed playing golf and was an active member of the Blackwell Men’s Golf Association and served as president of the organization. He also served on the City of Blackwell Golf Trust Authority. He also participated in the Blackwell Bowling Leagues and entered various tournaments around the state. Fred was a member of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed his ministry of lawn maintenance for the church. His greatest love was his family, especially his grandchildren and attending their various activities.
He is survived by his wife, Kaye Williamson of Blackwell; a daughter, Shelly Steffen and husband Stan of Edmond; a son, Mickey Williamson of Blackwell; a sister, Joan Cartwright and husband Les of Blackwell; grandchildren, Derek Reid Steffen and wife Dyan of Derby, Kansas, Kaylee Michelle Steffen and fiancé Preston Fant of Edmond, and Bryce Matthew Williamson of Blackwell; and a soon to be born great granddaughter, Rachel Kate Steffen.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 15th in the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell with Rev. Cap McIlnay officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Ned Sweetser, Merle Summers, Gary Coltharp, Jerry Kellum, Richard Looper and Robert Caskey. Serving as honorary casketbearers will be John Hood, Larry Noel, Don Pierce and Gerald Nelson.
A memorial has been established in his honor with the First United Methodist Church for lawn maintenance in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
