Floyd Douglas Griggs
(September 2, 1935 – October 27, 2015)
Floyd Douglas Griggs, age 80, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2015, at his home.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 31, 2015, at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Robert Montomery officiating. C asketbearers will be his grandchildren. Burial will then follow at the Resthaven Memorial Park in Ponca City, Oklahoma . Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home. Family will receive friends on Friday, October 30, 2015, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Trout Funeral Home.
Floyd was born on September 2, 1935 to Beaulah May (Thrall) and Earl Edward Griggs in Guymon, OK. He was raised in northwest Oklahoma and southwest Kansas, graduating from Deerfield High School in Deerfield, KS in 1953. After high school he attended Kansas State University and in 1957 completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting as an Honors graduate and with Phi Kappa Phi honors. On September 30, 1956, Floyd married Carol Lavon Kash in Lakin, KS, until her passing on Feb. 18, 1990. Melba Maxine (Campbell) Moos became his wife on August 23, 1991 in Ponca City. Floyd began working for Conoco in the Controllers Department on June 1, 1957. On April 1, 1962, he transferred to the Computer Services Department. Retirement came June 1, 1992 as the associate director of Data Center Planning and Operations. Floyd was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and served as a deacon and trustee. He also belonged to the Phi Kappa Tau Social Fraternity, Sigma Theta Epsilon Methodist Service Fraternity, Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation Research Council, and the Conoco Retirees’ Association. Hobbies that Floyd enjoyed included growing flowers and tomatoes, reading, doing puzzles, crosswords, golfing, dancing, computer games, and playing cutthroat pitch games with his work buddies on lunch breaks.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine of the home; daughters: Kendra Chatwood and husband Chris of Marietta, Georgia; Laurie Hoddy and husband Tom of Ponca City; stepsons: Stephen Moos and wife Terri of Broken Arrow, OK, and Paul Moos and wife Patty of North Richland Hills, TX; stepdaughters: Donna Wells and husband Brent of Great Bend, KS; and Julie Evans and husband Justin of Houston, TX; 14 grandchildren, Amanda Hoddy, Sabrina Hoddy, Eden Hoddy, Andrew Chatwood, Carter Chatwood, Tara Massey, Cole Moos, Allie Moos, Brandon Wells, Bryce Wells, Kaitlin Moos, Daniel Moos, Morgan Evans, and Owen Evans; 3 great grandsons; and many nieces nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Carol, brother Gene Griggs, and sister Donita Claar.
