Obituary for Evelyn Grimes

Evelyn Louise Grimes, age 67, resident of Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed away December 3, 2014 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, December 8, 2014 at the Resthaven Memorial Parks with Jeremy May officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.

Evelyn was born on December 16, 1946 to Luther Lewis Harris and Lois Elizabeth McGee Harris in Ponca City, OK. She was raised in Ponca City, Oklahoma, graduating from Ponca City High School in 1965. Evelyn was married to Fred Wesley Grimes on January 14, 1972 in Blackwell, Oklahoma. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, and the Osage Cove Volunteer Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary. Crafts, reading, playing cards, genealogy research, were hobbies she enjoyed. Her love of conversation and family were the most important aspects of her life, she lived for the holidays when the whole family would get together. Often, She could be found sitting behind a cup of coffee at the coffee shop chatting it up with the customers.

Survivors include her beloved children: Sherry Rackliff and husband Larry of Ramona, Oklahoma; Tammy Jordan and husband Terry of Ponca City; daughter in law Sheila Grimes of Ponca City; Rusty Grimes and wife Lisa of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Billy Grimes and wife Kandie of Ponca City; Andrew Grimes and partner Keith McClain of Owasso, Oklahoma; and Danny Grimes and wife Jessica of Ponca City; sister, Shirley Taylor of Bonner Springs, Kansas; 21 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, stepfather Joe Akers, stepfather Richard Eller and son Wes Grimes.
