Ernestine Petty

February 16, 1930 – December 21, 2020

Ernestine Petty, a former resident of Ponca City, went peacefully to her heavenly home on Monday, December 21, 2020. She was 90 years of age.

Ernestine was born February 16, 1930, in Ponca City, OK; the second child of Ernest and Lucy Mae Belle (Dyson) Ware. She graduated from Glendale, AZ High School in 1948.

She met the love of her life, Glenn Leroy Petty and they were married on October 22, 1948. They celebrated almost 58 years of marriage before Glenn’s passing in 2006.

Ernestine and Glenn started their business, Petty Interiors, an interior design and drapery shop, which they owned and operated for 23 years. In 1978, she went to work for the U.S. Department of Commerce as a field representative in the statistical data division of the Census Bureau. She enjoyed this job that allowed her to travel and meet people from all walks of life. In 1995, she was awarded the US Government Bronze Medal in a special ceremony in Washington D.C. This is the highest award given by the Census Bureau and only one field representative in the nation is selected annually for this award. She retired from the US Department of Commerce in 1996.

Ernestine was a very artistic and creative individual. She loved to draw, write poetry, was an excellent cook and seamstress, and a wonderful helpmate to her husband. She was happiest whenever she was working in her flowerbeds and yard. She always said this was the best therapy a person could get. She enjoyed singing, reading and studying God’s word as she truly enjoyed God’s beautiful creation. She was a longtime member of Eastern Heights Christian Church. She was a true believer and shared her faith with others.

Those left to cherish her memory are daughters and sons-in-law, Glenna and John Wiles, Norma and Lane Tucker, Theresa and Mark Schmidt. She is also survived by a daughter Deanna, sons Ronald and David and step-son Richard. She has twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Surviving siblings are a brother David (Rose) Ware, and two sisters, Sue Bridges and Charlotte (Bud) Jones. Other survivors are her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sisters, one brother, and one grandson.

Pallbearers will be John Wiles, Lane Tucker, Mark Schmidt and grandsons-in-law Joe Kampman, Robbie Sutton, and Lawson Green Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be her grandchildren: Lana, Michael, Marc, Zachary, Jeremy, Amanda, Meagan, Chelsea, Emma Lee, Jack, and Aubree.

Memorials can be made to Eastern Heights Christian Church, 5100 Lake Rd., Ponca City, OK 74604, to the Food Pantry or Missions.

Mom, you may be gone from your earthly home but you will live on in our hearts and we will always love you.
