Erma Lorraine Miller

Erma Lorraine Miller, formerly of Lamont, Oklahoma, died Friday, August 19, 2016, in the Golden Oaks Nursing Center in Enid, Oklahoma, at the age of 92 years.
Erma Lorraine Miller was born on October 28, 1923, on a farm near Pond Creek, Oklahoma, to Edward L. and Ethel Erma (Moser) Miller. As a young girl she moved with her family to Newkirk and then to Lamont where she graduated from Lamont High School in 1941. Following her graduation she worked in the Correspondence Section of the Safety Branch of the Oklahoma City Air Service Command at Tinker Air Force Base prior to attending Northwest State Teacher’s College in Alva where she received her teaching certification. She later received her Masters of Teaching Degree from Central State College in Edmond in 1965.
She taught first and second grades in Oklahoma, Wyoming, and Washington. In Oklahoma she had a positive impact on children in Blackwell, Ponca City, Woodward, and Oklahoma City Public Schools. Following her retirement in 1991, she continued to work as a volunteer at Stand Wadie Elementary School teaching skills to first and second grade students. During her tenure she received several recognitions and awards for her work from educator associations and parent associations. She was a two time recipient of the Star of Education Award presented by the Foundation for Oklahoma City Public Schools.
She was a member of the Kelley Avenue Christian Church in Oklahoma City. Her many hobbies included reading, gardening, cooking and nutrition. Her enjoyment of travel was highlighted by trips to Europe, Japan, and Australia. She had a special interest in photography that included film processing and developing. She was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching football, baseball and hockey. Other interests included water aerobics, pilates, and various board games.
She is survived by sisters-in-law, Madeline Miller of Blackwell and Beverly Miller of Garland, Utah; nieces and nephews, Linda Sue Dow and Marva Hamlin (both of Enid,) Brenda Pena and Ronald Miller (both of Bellflower, California;) and numerous great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, Glenys Miller, and two brothers, Marvin Miller and Edward Lester Miller.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 27th in the Lamont Cemetery in Lamont, Oklahoma, with Rev. Jeff McReynolds of the Lamont Christian Church officiating.
