Elvis Lee Hendrix – Veteran

January 16, 1933 – February 12, 2018

Elvis Lee Hendrix, 85, died Monday, February 12, 2018. Elvis was born January 16, 1933 in Memphis, TN. He was the oldest of nine children. Elvis went to enlist in the Army at the age of 15, but he needed his father’s signature on the form. His father signed and Elvis joined the Army as a paratrooper. After his tour in Korea, Elvis worked at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois as a mechanic until he retired as civilian military. He also worked at the Scottish Rite Temple in St. Louis as a maintenance supervisor until he retired again in 2013.

Elvis meet Barbara “Jean” Hendrix in 1975 and they married that year. Elvis was a 33 degree Mason and both Elvis and Jean were members of the Florissant Eastern Star Chapter. Elvis was also a member of Moolah Shrine in St. Louis.

Elvis was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jean Hendrix, in 2012. Also preceded in death are his mother, Ida Belle Hendrix and father, Otis Lee Hendrix; brothers, Floyd Hendrix, Clinton Hendrix, Billy Hendrix and Gerald Hendrix and grandson, Tony Vaughan.

He is survived by sisters, Charlotte Ovenstone, Judy Girly and Carlene Hendrix and brother Russell Hendrix.

He is also survived by his daughter, Mary Elizabeth Vaughan and husband, Bud of Catoosa, Oklahoma and his son, Mel Lee Hendrix and wife, Cathy of Bridgeton, Missouri; six grandchildren, Danya Winters and husband Eric, Jake Andrews and wife Donna, Erin Vaughan, Kevin Fuwell and wife Dana, Josh Fuwell and Amanda Fuwell; great-grandchildren, David Meeks and wife Sarah, Ashley Meeks, Brayden Meeks, Trisha Vaughan, Lane Hassenplug, Seth Hassenplug, Raegan Fuwell, Landon Fuwell, Parker Fuwell.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, April 7th, 2018 at 11:00am at Mount Olive Cemetery in Nardin, Oklahoma.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation in Elvis’ name be sent to the American Cancer Society in c/o of Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
