Obituary for Ellen Cox

Ellen Griffey Cox, age 86, resident of Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday, November 15, 2014 at her home.
A visitation with the family will be held in the historic Great Room at Trout Funeral Home & Crematory from 7:00-8:00 pm on Tuesday, November 18, 2014. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 pm, Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at the Central Baptist Church, 1732 E. Coleman Road, Ponca City with Pastor John Waterloo officiating. Burial will then follow at 4:00 pm at the Enid Cemetery in Enid, Oklahoma. Casket Bearers will be Brad Allensworth, Quintin Allensworth, Preston Allensworth, and Sean Edgar. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Eddie Bottger, Allen Cox, and Glynn Cox. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.
Ellen was born on September 10, 1928 in Mulhall, Oklahoma to Ralph Burris Griffey and Verna Mae Smith Griffey. She was raised in rural Logan and Noble counties, graduating high school in Marshall, Oklahoma in 1946. Ellen married Lorraine Layton Cox on July 10, 1949 in Enid, Oklahoma. Above all, Ellen was a loving and devoted mother, wife, and homemaker. She was glad to work behind the scenes, giving more to others than she expected for herself. She served as a CNA at the Ponca City Hospital, before joining Air Systems Components as a Production Technician, where she worked for 19 years before her retirement. The Christian Union of Enid once held Ellen and her husband as members and more recently, Central Baptist Church has been her church home.
She is survived by her children: Anita Allensworth and husband John of Ponca City; Marilyn Sanders and husband Dennis of Ponca City; and Russell Cox, of Ponca City; brothers: Wayne Griffey of Carthage, Missouri; Roy Griffey and wife Virginia of Lufkin, Texas; and David Griffey of Edmond, Oklahoma; grandchildren Tina Bottger and husband Eddie of Owasso, Oklahoma; Brad Allensworth and wife Missey of Ponca City; Lori Johnson and Quentin Barnhart of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Shannon Cox of Ponca City; Sean Edgar of Ponca City; and Scott Edgar of Perry; great grandchildren; Quintin Allensworth, Preston Allensworth, Jessica Bottger, Emma Johnson, and Tate Edgar; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, her mother and father-in-law: W.E. and Hazel Cox, and siblings: William Jerome, Paul, Merle, James, Pete, Rachel, Irene, Wallace, and Jennie.
