December 6, 1929 – August 28, 2017

Eddie Emmitt Barnes passed away on Monday, August 28, 2017 in Oklahoma City. He was 87 years old. A memorial ceremony to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 1, 2017 at Sunset Baptist Church in Ponca City.

Eddie was born on December 6, 1929 in Wichita, Kansas to his parents, Albert and Grace Mae (Rorabaugh) Barnes. As a young man, Eddie enlisted in the United States Army to serve in World War II. He was a respected fabricator and welder, owning his own business for many years. To many he was known as Coach Barnes as he coached girls fast pitch softball, boys baseball, basketball, and football. He had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. Eddie was a great mentor to his family and friends and will be remembered for his orneriness and love of life.

Eddie will be missed by his companion, Alice (Dent) Hamby, his daughter, Terri Fry, son, Chuck Barnes and wife Glynda, daughter, Debbie McClaskey and husband, Harland, daughter, Bambi Correll and husband Bill, daughter, Wendy Terrazas and husband, Alfonso, son, Chad Barnes and wife, Sabrina, son, Alan Bliss and wife, Cathy, son, Rick Bliss and wife Jan, daughter, Taffy Locke and husband Clifford, and his fur babies, Rocko and Minnie. Eddie will also be remembered by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-greatgrandchildren as well as many others in the community that called him Papa Eddie or Coach Barnes.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene Louella (Norris) Barnes in 2002.

Memorial contributions may be made to Kara’s Game, an athletic endeavor created to serve adults and children with special needs in our community, P.O. Box 931, Blackwell, OK 74631.

Honorary casketbearers will be his grandchildren and Jack Norris.

The family will be at 1656 E. Tower Road in Ponca City.
