Obituary for Dorothy Burford

Dorothy Hazel Burford of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Tuesday, December 30, 2014, in the Stillwater Medical Center at the age of 97 years.
Dorothy Hazel (Lee) Burford was born on August 23, 1917, in Blackwell, Oklahoma. She grew up in attending Blackwell Grade School and Braman High School. Following her education she married Murlin John Burford on August 23, 1935, in Wellington, Kansas, and they settled on a farm north of Deer Creek where she assisted her husband with the family farming operation and served as a homemaker. Following their retirement from farming in 1987, they moved to Blackwell to make their home. Her husband preceded her in death on April 4, 1990, and she continued living in Blackwell. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed sewing and gardening.
She is survived by her daughter, Jo Ann Bennett and husband Darrell of Piedmont, Oklahoma; a granddaughter, Linda Chiaffitelli and husband Michael of Oklahoma City; and a great granddaughter, Jessica Lee Chiaffitelli of Oklahoma City.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Harry and Harland Lee; a sister, Beulah Powell; and a great grandson, Landon James Liles.
Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 2, 2015, in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell with Rev. Sharon Cochran of Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Cemetery in Nardin.
Casketbearers will be Leon Lively, Kenneth Webster, Jack Steffen, Michael Chiaffitelli, Loren Valentine and Paul Kuehny.
