Donna Gene Wirtz of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Saturday, November 21, 2020, in the O.S.U. Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 85 years.
Donna Gene Wirtz was born on April 1, 1935, in Hunnewell, Kansas, to Carl Raymond and Helen Katherine (Britton) Overbey. She grew up in Hunnewell before moving to Blackwell while in the fourth grade. She attended Blackwell Public Schools and graduated from Blackwell High School in 1953. She married Max Allen Wirtz on June 13, 1954, in Blackwell. She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for two years. The couple lived in Blackwell except for one year in Stillwater, where she worked as station clerk for Santa Fe Trail Transportation Company. After returning to Blackwell she served her family as a homemaker before they started Lock-N-Clock in 1988. In 2003 they sold the business and began a clock sales and service business, known as The Clock Shop. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for forty-three years. She was active in the Blackwell Parent-Teacher organization and as a Blue Bird and Camp Fire leader. She enjoyed gardening, decorating for various holidays, and her family, especially her grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death on December 2, 2019, and she continued to make Blackwell her home.
She is survived by two daughters, Cindy Lawrence and husband Jim of Blackwell and Becky Muret Roth and husband Vernon of Kirwin, Kansas; four grandchildren, Dan Muret and wife Tonja of Cooper, Texas, Brian Muret and wife Channa of Blackwell, Kyle Muret and wife Jennifer of Stillwater, and Drew Wirtz and fiancé Brook of Tonkawa; ten great grandchildren; and “adopted” family, Larry and Jackie Bennett of Enid.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Raymond and Robert Overbey; three sisters, Eileen King, Wilma Tobin and MaryAnn Overbey; and a son-in-law, David Muret.
A public graveside service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 27th in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery northeast of Blackwell with Rev. Mark Mozeik officiating.
Honorary casketbearers will be Vernon Roth, Jim Lawrence, Larry Bennett, Brian Muret, Dan Muret, Kyle Muret and Drew Wirtz.
A memorial has been established in her honor with the St. John’s Lutheran Church in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
