Donald V. Newman of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at his home in Blackwell at the age of 76 years.
Donald V. Newman was born on May 7, 1941, in Meade, Oklahoma, to Audry Mark and Alice Dean (Mann) Newman. As a young boy he moved with his family to Lamont, Oklahoma, where he grew up and graduated from Lamont High School in 1961. He furthered his education by attending Central State University in Edmond. He married Carole Lu Cole on August 25, 1966, in Borger, Texas, and they settled in Buena Vista, Texas, where in worked in the oilfields. After a year they moved to Lamont where he worked in the farming industry before beginning his plumbing career with his uncle Lewis Mann. In 1972 they moved to Blackwell where he worked for Gearhard Plumbing. In the mid 1970’s he began Newman Plumbing and operated the business until ill health forced his retirement. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Lamont, the Moose Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Blackwell. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, bowling, planting his garden and various other outdoor activities.
He is survived by his wife, Carole Newman of Blackwell; two daughters, Elizabeth Lafferty of Blackwell and Merrianna Bohn of Sheldon, North Dakota; a son, Michael Newman of Blackwell; two sisters, Carlan Kindred of Blackwell and Bobbie Walenciak of Stillwater; eighteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Leaha Kelle and Kilu Lu Newman; two step-sons, Cornell Bartush and John Thompson; a sister, Dorothy Robertson; and a granddaughter, Nichelle Hoefs.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 18th in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Johnson and Rev. Cliff Johnson officiating.
A memorial has been established in his honor with the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
