Obituary for Donald Hammett

Donald Eugene Hammett, resident of Wichita, KS and former resident of Ponca City, OK., passed away Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS. He was 86.

The service will be held at 1:00 pm, on October 2, 2014 at the Trout Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Adam Phillips, officiating. Burial will then follow at the Resthaven Memorial Parks in Ponca City, OK . A reception will follow at First Free Will Baptist Church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Donald Hammett’s life. Donations may be made in memory of Donald Hammett to Ponca City Senior Center, Arkansas City Senior Center, and/or Blackwell Senior Center. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.

Donald was born on December 15, 1927 in Blackwell, OK. He was married to Dorothy (Hunt) Hammett on March 12, 1951 in Winfield, Kansas. Donald was a great family man and a loving father. He was a lifetime member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 441 in Wichita, KS. Donald served his country in the Army between 1951-1952 during the Korean War. He also was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Donald was a social, active man who loved to dance at the senior citizens centers in Oklahoma and Kansas. His family and friends will always remember him as a helpful and kind person.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of the home; Sons, Luther Hammett, Jerry (Carol) Hammett, and daughter Eva (Tim) Hoover all of Wichita, KS. Mr. Hammett also has five grand children and four great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his mother Versa E. Linn; brother Melvin G. Hammett both formerly of Ponca City, OK.

Casketbearers will be Rollin Zimmerman and Ken Wilson
