November 22, 1936 – November 18, 2018

Dewey Crain longtime Ponca City resident went home to be with the Lord with his family by his side Sunday afternoon, November 18, 2018. He was 81 years of age. Dewey was born November 22, 1936 in Ponca City, OK the son of Cecil G. Crain and Blendena C. Miller Crain.

Wake services will be held nightly at the Ponca Indian Baptist Church with supper at 5:30 p.m. and services starting at 7 p.m. The traditional feast will begin Noon Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at the Ponca Indian Baptist Church with Pastor Brandon Kemble officiating. Interment will follow in the Ponca Indian tribal cemetery. Casket bearers will be grandsons; Sonny King, Kelsey Hinman, Jody Cornell, Zack King, Jayden Myer and Jake Shultz. Honorary casket bearers will be Ray Meek, Mike Self, Junior Godfrey, Billy Bussey, David Bussey, George Bussey, Jeff Little Walker and Roy Hinman.

Dewey grew up in Ponca City area and he married the love of his life Loretta Delores StandsBlack on October 13, 1954 in Shidler, OK making their home in Ponca City, OK. They celebrated 63 years of marriage on October 13, 2017. Dewey began cleaning soda pop bottles at a very young age at the bottling company where his parents worked. He learned how to work from them and he later went to work for Nickle’s machine for over 40 years. After he retired he wanted to stay busy, so he worked for OG&E for several years and was a grounds maintenance at the Lew Wentz Golf Course. Dewey was a member of the Ponca Indian Baptist Church and the Ponca Gourd dance society. He participated in the Ponca Tribal activities and he learned to sing Ponca songs. Dewey was also known for his Native American drums he made and people all over the United States and Canada have them. During his early years he was a very good boxer. He enjoyed spending time with his grandsons and he has passed on a lot of his hunting and trapping knowledge on to them. He enjoyed hunting, trapping, noodling, exercising and lifting weights. Dewey was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He left to his family a legacy of hard work ethics. Dewey also enjoyed working in his garage and feeding and watching birds. He would also be called from time to time to come and trap and relocate a wild animal.

Dewey leaves behind 3 daughters; Deborah Margerum and husband Michael, Karen Howe both of Ponca City, OK and Susan Cornell and husband Michael of Tonkawa, OK. 3 Adopted brothers; Douglas Eagle, Wilkie Eagle and Lester Eagle all of Ponca City, OK 7 grandchildren Sonny & Teresa King of Ponca City; Deidra Seatel and husband Roger of Ponca City, Christon and Sean Hinman of Edmond, OK, Kelsey and Herlinda Hinman of Newkirk, OK Candace and Braden Myer of Tonkawa, OK Jody and Maria Cornell of Ponca City, OK and Angela Howe of Ponca City, OK he is also survived by several great grandchildren; Jake Schultz of Greely, Amanda Droenberger of Ponca City, Lucas Craft of Tulsa, Zackary King of Tonkawa, Emilio & Cecil Hinman of Newkirk, Brianna & Michea Jo Cornell of Ponca City, Jayden and Mikayla Myer of Tonkawa. He also has 2 great great granddaughters; Alexandria Droenberger and Celia Rese Mill. 1 Uncle Dean Crain of Shidler, OK. And numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and friends.
