August 14, 1956 – December 27, 2024
Darrell Wayne Whitfield, 68, of Ponca City, OK, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2024, at his home with his wife and best friend, Lynn, by his side. Visitation will be held Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 12:30pm at Darrell’s home he shared with his wife, Lynn, in Ponca City. A graveside service will immediately follow at 3:00 pm, also at his home, where he chose to be laid to rest. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, 505 W. Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK, 74601.
Darrell was born August 14, 1956, in Pensacola, FL to Billy Joe Whitfield & Patricia Elois (Caldwell) Whitfield. Darrell graduated from Stinnett High School in Stinnett, TX, in 1975. He then went on to attend college at Southwest Texas State University before entering the oilfield industry as a truck driver.
Darrell spent the last 17 years of his life with his wife and best friend, Lynn, whom he married on August 23, 2013, at Hutchinson County Courthouse in Stinnett, TX. Darrell and Lynn enjoyed nothing more than spending time together; doing all the things they shared a love for and were rarely apart from one another.
Darrell had a love for college and professional football, his favorite teams being the Oklahoma Sooners & the Dallas Cowboys. When he wasn’t watching football, he spent all the time he could outdoors or cruising with Lynn in his Rat Rod.
Darrell is survived by: his wife, Lynn; his mother, Patricia Elois (Caldwell) Whitfield; his brother, Joey Whitfield and his wife, Debbie, of Borger, TX; and three children, Dustin Whitfield and his wife, Trista, of Fritch, TX, Mandy Whitfield of El Paso, TX, Sydney West of Ponca City, OK. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Austin, Shavae, Maddy, Brayden, Emory, Adam, Baylee, and McKynzee; 7 nieces and nephews: Dawn, Kara, Cory, Marc, Jessica, Michelle, and Ty.
Darrell is preceded in death by his father Billy Joe Whitfield, and two brothers, Michael Whitfield and Johnny Whitfield.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Bruce Pruett. Will Fortney, Bob Hunt, Tom Emerson, Nick Pruett, and Travis Denning.
