Obituary for Darrel Stewart

Stewart, Darrel Desmond, 87 retired Co-Owner of Madison Machine Shop in Tulsa, Oklahoma died Monday, December 30, 2013. Darrel was born June 16, 1926 to George Thomas Stewart and Selma (Reed) Stewart. He grew up on his family’s farm in Trumann, Arkansas where he helped farm cotton.
After leaving home, he moved to Wichita where he worked for the Boeing company. While at Boeing, he found his lifelong vocation as a machinist, ultimately retiring as co-owner of the Madison Machine Shop.
In His spare time he enjoyed carpentry and music. His love of the two things inspired him to build an play violins. Darrel also enjoyed traveling with his wife. And when he was able, he loved going to church to be with his friends in the faith. Darrel spent his last 10 years of life in Ponca City, Oklahoma.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years Vonnie J. (Booth) Stewart; sons: Daryl G. & wife Karen of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA; Steve Stewart of Haysville, KS; Johnie Desmond of Haysville, KS; daughters: Sue Winters of Carl Junction, MO; Pam Johnson & husband Terry of Wichita, KS; Donna Rogan & Husband Mike of Helena, MT; brothers: George Stewart of Clarksville, AR; Charles Stewart & Wife Joyce of Scottsboro, AL; sister: Kathrine Battles of Sacramento, CA; 7 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents George & Selma (Reed) Stewart; sisters: Flossie Brown; Gwendal Thomas; Wilma Thomas; Geneva Yewell; Maxine Reeves brothers: Warren Stewart; Billy G. Stewart.
A visitation will be held Thursday, January 2, 2014 from 6-7pm at Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.
Funeral Services will be at 2:00pm Friday, January 3, 2014 at the Harmony Missionary Baptist Church, 2230 North Union, Ponca City 74601. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Darrel’s memory to the Harmony Missionary Baptist Church or Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 1904 N. Union Street #103, Ponca City, OK 74601.
