Connie Sue Shields

June 7, 1940 – July 24, 2024

Connie Sue Shields, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, went to Heaven on Wednesday, July 24, 2024.

Connie was born in Blackwell, OK, on June 7, 1940, to Robert Preston and Bernice (Moreland) Preston. After living in California and Kentucky, the family moved back to Blackwell where Connie met the love of her life, Larry Shields, while attending Blackwell High School. They were married on March 8, 1958.

To this union, Debbie, Darrell, and Deanna were born. They made their home in Nardin, OK, where Larry farmed and raised cattle for many years. Connie worked by his side on the farm and also went along with Larry and their children on the wheat harvest for many years. All of the harvest crews enjoyed the delicious meals she prepared for them.

Connie was a member of the Nardin United Methodist Church and the Delta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was part owner of CJ’s Closet in Blackwell for several years. She cared for and prayed for so many over the years, always opening her home for a visit, cooking for her family, hosting holidays, and doting on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a Christian, a wonderful mom, and a very caring, funny, and talented lady.

Connie is survived by her daughter Debbie Gibson and husband Steve of Oklahoma City, OK; son Darrell Shields and wife Norma of Nardin, OK; daughter Deanna Barnes and husband John of Mansfield, TX; grandchildren Whitney Ashinhurst and husband Jason, Afton Diedrich and husband Garin, Tyler Gibson, Tyson Shields and wife Jenny, Jack Barnes, and Addison Barnes; and eight precious great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Kay Frazier of Tonkawa and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Shields; her parents, Robert and Bernice Preston; and her brother, Larry Preston.

She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. A Celebration of Life for Connie is scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Friday, August 9th in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel.
