Connie Denise Schones of Ponca City, Oklahoma passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2016 as a result of a car accident.
Connie D. (Craig) Schones was born March 27, 1952 in Montezuma, Kansas to Gerald Dean and Anita Lucille (Cope) Craig. C onnie grew up in Blackwell, where she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. Connie graduated from Blackwell High school in 1970, and then went on to graduate from Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa, Oklahoma in 1972.
Connie and Jim Schones were married in Pond Creek, Oklahoma on April 2, 1977. They resided in Pond Creek, Perry, and Del City before moving to Ponca City, Oklahoma in 1984.
Connie worked at various jobs before finding what she was called to do, which was working with troubled youth. She worked at Conoco-Phillips, St. Mary’s Day Care, owned and operated the Donut Hole, Oklahoma Youth Shelter, and at the time of her death was employed by the Oklahoma Juvenile Affairs office, a job she was made for because of her love for children. She also was a substitute BOA for Edwards Jones.
Connie’s favorite pastime was traveling with Jim and their son Nicholas and his girlfriend Rachel, and attending OSU football games where they have been season ticket holders for the past 20 years. She also spent as much time as she could with her great nephews and nieces; Ethan and Brady Petree as well as Harlow, Hartlee, and Keb Deppen. She would keep them, love them with all of her heart, and spoil them rotten.
She is survived by her husband, Jim of Ponca City; a son Nicholas Craig Schones and longtime girlfriend Rachel of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, her mother Anita (Cope) Craig of Blackwell, two sisters; Belinda Petree and husband David of Grove, Oklahoma, Lori Buesing and husband Kenny of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and one brother Doug of Red Oak, Oklahoma. She is also survived by one nephew Jared and wife Mandy of Morrison, Oklahoma and two nieces; Jessica and husband David Deppen of Moore, Oklahoma and Melissa Buesing of Blackwell, Oklahoma. In addition, Connie is also survived by the most important little people in her life; Ethan and Brady Petree, as well as Harlow, Hartlee, and Keb Deppen.
She was preceded in death by her father Gerald Craig.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 15 in the First Baptist Church in Blackwell with Rev. Randy Ratliff officiating. Burial will follow in Blackwell Cemetery. The family will be hosting a visitation on Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Roberts and Son Funeral Home.
Casket bearers will be Larry Rountree, Ted Kennedy, Mike Brown, Richard Hoy, Stephen Wolff, and Josh Brotherton.
