Charles J. Terrell
November 1, 1943 – July 13, 2023
Charles James Terrell, lifelong resident of Blackwell, OK passed away on Thursday July 13, 2023 at Shawn Manor Nursing Home in Ponca City, OK. He was 79 years old.
Charlie was born on November 1,1943 to James Terrell and Bertha (Alsdurf) Terrell in Blackwell. Growing up, he attended the Lutheran Church with his family. He graduated from Blackwell Public Schools in 1962. He then began to work for the City of Blackwell as a meter reader where he received numerous awards for being an outstanding employee. He kept this position for 39 years following in his family’s footsteps. In his younger years, Charlie attended a movie with his sister Elva, and this is where his love of Elvis began. He married family friend, Anna Inmon on May 6,1972. They settled down together in Blackwell and began attending the Baptist Church. They enjoyed getting together with family, playing games, going to concerts, and traveling. He always enjoyed the company of dogs and had them throughout his lifetime. He made many memories visiting family in Kansas and taking trips to Branson, Canada, and Tennessee. His favorite destination in Tennessee was of course Graceland, the home of his absolute favorite singer Elvis Presley. He could listen to Elvis or watch Elvis for hours on end, and always loved to tell people “You see that guy right there? That’s my boy, E.P.”
Charlie was the type of man to give the shirt off his back and expect nothing in return. People always said he should have been a comedian. He could keep a straight face and say the funniest thing just to make everyone laugh. His big smile always lit up a room and there was never a dull moment around him, you never knew what was going to come out of his mouth. He was a self proclaimed picky eater, but loved meatloaf, mashed potatoes and hamburgers. He loved going with his brother Glenn to one of their favorite restaurant’s, Braum’s. He would never turn down a piece of apple pie, chocolate cake, or a can of Pepsi. He was a “Pepsi Man”. Although he loved watching most sports, football and “wrastlin’” were his favorites. He was a big time Sooner fan and always supported his hometown Blackwell Maroons.
Despite the passing of many of his family members at a young age, he continued on and it only made him stronger. He never thought he would be the only one left out of so many, but now he has finally joined them all again. Charlie was truly a genuine and loving man. The impact he made on others will live on forever. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
Survivors include two nieces, Rebecca Terrell Roberson of Blackwell and Sara Terrell and future nephew Justin Walker also of Blackwell, one cousin who was like a sister Letha Bartmess of Gardner, KS, numerous other cousins and in-laws.
He was preceded in death by his wife Anna (Inmon) Terrell, parents James and Bertha, two brothers Verlin “Butch” Terrell and Glenn Terrell, one sister Elva Inmon, brother-in-law Virgil Inmon, one niece Janet Inmon, one nephew Brent Roberson, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and in-laws.
