Obituary for Charles Leroy Jenkins

Charles Leroy Jenkins of Blackwell, Oklahoma, passed Saturday morning, March 21, 2015, in his residence at the age of 86 years.

Charles Leroy Jenkins was born on March 3, 1929, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Jess and Juanita (Dutton) Jenkins. He attended the Blackwell Public Schools. He joined the United States Army in 1947 serving in the 82nd Airborne Division as a corporal and completed 127 airborne jumps. He later entered the U. S. Army’s 5th Armored Division in 1951 serving as a sergeant and continued serving in the Oklahoma National Guard from 1953 to 1977 as a staff sergeant. He married Durella Dobbs on May 5, 1951, in Van Buren, Arkansas. He was employed at the Blackwell Zinc Smelter for twenty five years until its closing and then worked for CFM retiring in 1992. His hobbies included landscaping, building water ponds, painting, hunting for arrowheads and fossils. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife Durella Jenkins of the home; five children, Rodney Jenkins of Fulshear, Texas, Allan Jenkins of Kearney, Nebraska, Gary Jenkins of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Debbie Hubbard of Tahlequah, Oklahoma and Terri Rowe of Blackwell, Oklahoma; three brothers, Jim Jenkins of Kildare, Oklahoma, Robert Jenkins of Ocala, Florida, and Max Jenkins of Waldron, Arkansas; a sister, Sylvia Simmons of Caldwell, Kansas; eleven grandchildren, Ashton Jenkins, Tyler Jenkins, Dayton Rowe, Justin Jenkins, Case Jenkins, Lindsey Price, Tiffany Bennett, Shelly Carruth, Rachel Hundley, Erin Omar and Robin Jenkins; and ten great grandchildren, Taylor Macioge, Cheyenne Price, Jacob Smith, Aidan Hundley, Kayla Hundley, Gabbie Bennett, Reese Jenkins, Tanner Jenkins, Jace Jenkins and Victoria Carruth.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Alfred Jenkins and Chancie Jenkins; a nephew, Ronnie Simmons; and a niece, Kimberly Jenkins.

Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 27, 2015, in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kevin Bookout of the First Free Will Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Olive Cemetery in Nardin, Oklahoma, with military rites performed by the United States Army.

Casketbearers will be grandsons, Ashton Jenkins, Tyler Jenkins, Dayton Rowe, Justin Jenkins, Case Jenkins, Dustin Hundley and Cody Bennett. Serving as honorary casketbearers will be Jim Jenkins, Robert Jenkins, Max Jenkins, Barry Stafford, Gail Clonts, Charlie Jenkins and Dave Jenkins.
