Charles Larry Chitwood, 75, of Ponca City, OK, left this life on March 21, 2023, surrounded by his family. Viewing will take place between 11:00 AM and 8:00 PM, Friday, March, 24, 2023, at Trout Funeral Home. A Graveside Ceremony will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Resthaven Memorial Park with Rev. Stephen Johnson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, 505 W. Grand Ave., Ponca City, OK, 74601.
Larry was born on October 31, 1947, in Pawnee, OK, to Ross Arnold and Bonnie Pearl (McClain) Chitwood. He attended Gray Horse Schools and graduated from Fairfax High School in 1965. He attended Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa, OK, before graduating from Oklahoma State University in 1971. Larry and Jacquita “Jackie” Willis were united in marriage on June 10, 1966, at Woodlands Christian Church in Ponca City. He was a member of the Oklahoma Army National Guard, being called to active duty during the Vietnam Conflict.
Larry owned Chitwood Construction. He made many contributions to the community. He built the helipad at the Ponca City hospital, the Ponca City’s offices Plaza, the Vietnam Veteran’s memorial at War Memorial Park, and he built the Armed Services Memorial in Newkirk, OK.
Larry and Jackie were very fortunate to be able to travel all over the world. They loved visiting their grandchildren. One of Larry’s favorite pastimes was trout fishing in Missouri each summer with his kids. Larry always had lots of adventures with his best friends and he enjoyed grilling outdoors for his friends and family.
Larry is survived by: his wife, Jackie of the home; son, Bret Chitwood and his wife, Julie, of Houston, TX; daughter, Wendy Hagy and her husband, Brent, of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Josh Chitwood of Golden, CO, Caitlyn Chitwood of Stillwater, OK, Emerson Hagy of Salt Lake City, UT; brother, Bill Chitwood of San Antonio, TX; sister, Judy Duggins of Bixby, OK, and several nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by: his parents, Ross and Bonnie Chitwood; sisters, Joan Otto, Jerri Pittman and Linda Summy.
