July 31, 1926 – May 27, 2018
Charles Fredrick Cole, Jr. passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2018 in Ponca City. He was 91 years old. Charles was born on July 31, 1926 in Shidler, Oklahoma to his parents, Charles F. Cole, Sr. and Millie (Qualls) Cole. Charles grew up in Shidler, Oklahoma and entered the United States Navy after graduating high school. Charles married Susan Mary Manning on January 4, 1955 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The couple moved to Ponca City in 1963. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from OSU and a Master’s Degree from Texas Tech in Austin. He taught engineering at Louisiana Tech and Texas Tech. He used his intellect while working in research and development at Conoco for many years.
He was a man of great faith and was a valued member of the Grace Episcopal Church in Ponca City. He was great at helping those who needed help the most. As a Giddeon, he was an excellent speaker and helped administer Bibles. He assisted the mission in serving food to locals in need. Charles had a brilliant mind and enjoyed studying math, chemistry, medicine, electronics, and microbiology to name a few.
A funeral ceremony for Charles will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 1, 2018 at Grace Episcopal Church in Ponca City. Following the ceremony, Charles will be buried next to his wife at Resthaven Memorial Park. Friends and family may pay their respects at Trout Funeral Home on Thursday, May 31, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Charles is survived by his daughter, Frances Cole and husband Duke Petree of Oklahoma City, son, Robert Cole and wife Lisa of Sykesville Maryland, grandsons, Christopher King of Oklahoma City, Jason Cole of Baltimore, MD, Thomas Cole of Sykesville, MD, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Susan Cole, sisters, Carol Jennings, Melba Maxwell, Esther Truax, and infant brother, Oscar.
Memorial contributions may be made in Charles’ honor to Grace Episcopal Church, 109 N. 13th, Ponca City, OK 74601.
