Cecil Elton Sodowsky of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Wednesday afternoon, February 1, 2017, at the Presbyterian Manor in Arkansas City, Kansas, at the age of 97 years.

Cecil Elton Sodowsky was born on December 8, 1919, in Blackwell to Crenes and Thressa Mae (Morrill) Sodowsky. He grew up in Blackwell attending Blackwell Public Schools and graduated from Blackwell High School in 1937. He married Juanita Emma Katherine Deffner on November 24, 1940, in Blackwell and they made Blackwell their home. Cecil and Juanita enjoyed almost seventy years of marriage together, traveling 49 of the 50 states and visiting Europe twice. He worked as a pattern maker for Acme Foundry in Blackwell. He later became foreman of the pattern shop and retired after forty-nine years of service. His wife preceded him in death on September 11, 2010, and he continued to make Blackwell his home until 2016 when he moved to Arkansas City. He was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Laymen’s League in Blackwell.

He is survived by two sons, Donald R. Sodowsky and wife Amanda of Blackwell and David Sodowsky and wife Christy of Winfield, Kansas; a daughter-in-law, Edie Sodowsky of Sabillasville, Maryland; two grandsons, Wayne Sodowsky and wife Kathy of Apollo, Pennsylvania, and Joel Sodowsky and Valerie of Coraopolis, Pennsylvania; three granddaughters, Jennifer Sodowsky of Sabillasville, Maryland, Megan Sodowsky and Robert of Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Melissa Moran and husband Michael of Tulsa, Oklahoma; six great grandchildren, Madilyn, Joseph, Anna and Thomas of Apollo, Pennsylvania, Iris of Stillwater, and Olivia of Tulsa; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Sodowsky; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Rev. Lee Sodowsky; his parents; and a brother, Rev. Paul Sodowsky.

Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 7th in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Blackwell with Rev. Ned Moerbe officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Roger Mayer, Rex Mayer, Byron Hildebrand, Tom Eakins, Rick Buellesfeld, and Don Priboth. Honorary casketbearers will be Jim and Lloydene Menzer, Leslie and Marilyn Page and John and Edna Powers.
