Lawrence Walter and Allie May (Snodgrass) Evans gained a beautiful baby girl November 27th, 1942. She was named Catherine for great grandmothers on both the Evans and Snodgrass sides of the family, and LaVeta for a dear family friend. She was welcomed home by her two-year-old brother Kenneth Walter. Two years later, they welcomed baby sister Arleta Rose. Catherine and her siblings grew up on the family farm in Old Bliss and loved rural living. Typical of country kids, she joined Marland 4-H at age nine and participated in all activities, including showing sheep. Although she had no children in 4-H or FFA, she supported both programs knowing they would be our future leaders. Whether it be providing refreshments for various events, assisting with sewing projects, organizing workshops for fair exhibits, making desserts for concession stands, or chaperoning at the state FFA convention, Catherine was always willing to go the extra step. She has received recognition from both Noble County 4-H and Frontier FFA.
Catherine graduated from Marland High School in 1960, Salutatorian of her class. Once a Tiger, always a Tiger. She was instrumental in forming the Marland School Alumni Association in 1962 and continued to be heavily involved in the July tri-annual meeting. After her parents signed a minor release form, Catherine was employed by Continental Oil Company from age 17 to 54.
She reunited with her high school sweetheart Mickey (Mac Arthur) Robinson, and they were married August 30th, 1981. In 1984, shortly after Mickey closed his small engine shop, they built their dream home and began farming on family land in Old Bliss. They also custom cut wheat for friends, raised feeder hogs and grew a bountiful garden. After Mickey’s death Catherine continued with the farming and gardening, which she dearly loved.
Catherine’s love of sewing continued throughout her life. Cassie’s Classics crafted garments for herself, family members and friends, including men’s western shirts, suits, wedding and bridesmaid dresses, and rodeo queen clothing, just to name a few. Catherine could make something beautiful with any piece of fabric, yarn or embroidery thread. When Mickey got his heart pump, he received a prayer quilt with threads tied as individual prayers were said. As a result of this, Catherine started a prayer quilt ministry. If she heard of someone in need, she’d make them a personalized “Prayer Quilt” to help them through the healing process.
Catherine became a member of the Bliss Homemakers Group in 1988. She held offices at the local, county, district and state levels. She received the State Heart of OHCE award for her work in the Oklahoma Home and Community Education Group. She was a staunch supporter of the Noble County Fair, exhibiting not only in the OHCE Division, but in the open class as well. In 2019, the Noble County Fair was dedicated to Catherine in honor of her relentless commitment. In 2020, she became Superintendent of the Food Preservation section.
Catherine was dedicated to making her community a better place to live. She was instrumental in getting a community center built in Marland, organizing work crews to finish the interior and planning fundraisers for buying the center’s necessities. She organized the Marland Volunteer Fire Department Bucket Brigade, wrote grants for trucks and equipment, and planned fundraisers for the fire department itself.
For over 25 years, Catherine was clerk for the Noble County Rural Water District #4. As well as being a Noble County precinct worker for over 20 years, she was currently the Inspector for Noble County election precinct #104 (Marland). In addition, she served as church secretary for the Community Church of Marland.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Mickey, her parents, niece Karen Evans, brother-in-law John Pulliam, and dear friend David Benham.
To cherish her memories, Catherine leaves behind her brother, Kenneth Evans (Patty), sister, Arleta Pulliam, step-children Mike Robinson and Monica (Robinson) Lanning (Jerry). Nieces and nephews, Dee Dee Pulliam Carlile, Kevan Pulliam, Walter Evans, Carl Evans, Brandie McCandless and Tammy Polk. Catherine was especially close to great nieces, Jennifer Peeper and her daughters, Morgan, McKenzie and Macy, Erin Carlile Johnson, Allie Carlile, and Charity Pulliam. Also, Mickey’s sisters’ families, and his sister-in-law.
