Cassie Marie Leatherman of Blackwell, Oklahoma, passed away, Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at her home at the age of 49 years.

Cassie was born on May 2, 1974, in Blackwell, Oklahoma to Larry and Susan (Franz) Stafford. She grew up in Blackwell attending Blackwell Public Schools and graduated in the class of 1992. She furthered her education by attending Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa and received an associate degree before obtaining her bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1997. She married Shannon Leatherman in 1997 and they made Blackwell their home. She worked as public relations director for Integris Blackwell Hospital before returning to the home as a full-time mother. In 2007 she received her master’s degree and worked at Cowley County Community College and Northern Oklahoma College as an adjunct biology teacher. She later worked as a biology teacher for Blackwell Middle School and Blackwell High School. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by her mother, Susan Stafford of Blackwell; twin daughters, Amelia and Lainey Leatherman of Blackwell; a son, Mason Leatherman of Blackwell; a sister, Lea Anne Steelmon and husband Darrell of Blackwell; a nephew, Ryan Spiva of Blackwell; her children’s father, Shannon Leatherman; her longtime friend, Rowdy Farrington and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father; her grandparents; and a nephew, Weston Spiva.

A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 27th at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Blackwell with Father Balaswamy Bathini officiating.

Honorary casketbearers will be John Franz, Jason Stafford, Richard Stafford, Darrell Steelmon and her children.

A memorial has been established in her honor with GRAND Mental Health, 1313 W. Ferguson, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
