Buddy Lee McKee of Blackwell, Oklahoma passed away on December 19, 2020 at Stillwater Medical Center – Blackwell at the age of 76 years due to complications from COVID-19.
He was born on August 12, 1944 in Blackwell, Oklahoma to Roy Lee “Chub” McKee and Daisy Blanche (Ward) McKee.
Buddy attended Lost Creek School until 8th grade. He was very active in 4H and FFA. He enjoyed showing champion Herford cattle with his dad and brother. He transferred to Blackwell Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1962. He furthered his education completing one year at NOC.
He married his high school sweetheart, Phoebe Stiles in July 1963. They resided at a farm East of Blackwell. He was employed with Acme Foundry and engaged in farming. Buddy worked for OG&E, retiring after 16 years. He later married the love of his life, Karen Crowe Boyer in Las Vegas, Nevada in January 1980. They lived in Blackwell before moving to Nara Visa, New Mexico, and then to Fairfax, and finally Ponca City, Oklahoma. Karen died with cancer in July of 1989.
Buddy had a big heart and loved life. He loved trucking, horses, and his dog, Chico. He also enjoyed traveling and spending time outdoors.
He was a member of First Christian Church in Blackwell.
He is survived by his brother, James “Jimbo” McKee, and wife Cindy; niece, Lacie McKee (Rod Looper); nephew, Jared McKee (Alice); great-nephews, Tanner Goans, Landyn Looper, Hadynn Looper; great-niece, Evalynn McKee; step-son, Keith Boyer; as well as his beloved dog, Chico.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant niece, Crystal McKee; infant nephew, Jason Lee McKee; wife, Karen McKee; and dear friends Harold and Velma Barrett.
No services are planned at this time, but there are hopes to celebrate his life with friends and family in the future.
