Bonnie Lu Waltrip

August 24, 1935 – December 22, 2021

Bonnie Lu (Hedges) Waltrip passed away December 22, 2021, at her home in Ponca City from cancer. She was 86.

A celebration of her life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2022, at the family home at 706 Dalewood Lane in Ponca City.

Bonnie was born on August 24, 1935, to the late Bryan and Opal Hedges in Arkansas City, Kansas.

After graduating from Arkansas City High School, where she was a cheerleader and 1952 Basketball Queen, she married Lloyd Dean Waltrip on November 23, 1953. The couple settled in Ponca City in 1957, where they raised a family of three sons.

Bonnie was employed in the accounting department at Conoco from 1965 until her retirement in 1985.

She enjoyed bowling, golf, travel, and reading. She was most proud of her service to the residents of Ponca City’s Via Christi, where she presented book reports for several years.

She is survived by her sons David and wife Barbara, Phillip and wife Genevieve, Anthony and wife Barbara, seven grandchildren Angela Martin, Katherine Jones, Elizabeth Russell, Lance, Eric, Lee, and Ann Waltrip, and great-grandchildren Kaela Hoff, Dallas and Serena Martin, Nathan and Kylie Jones, Elise, Brylie, and Ethan Waltrip, Abigail and Savannah Russell, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dean, her sisters Dorothy Reid and Peggy Gordinier, daughter-in-law Nancy Waltrip, and infant grandson Matthew Waltrip.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, 505 W Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK 74601.
