Billy Ray Vollmer
(October 23, 1936 – September 4, 2016)
Billy Ray Vollmer, Perry, Oklahoma, went home to be with his Lord Sunday afternoon at Green Valley Nursing Home. He was 79.
Viewing will start Wednesday morning. September 7, at 8 a.m. and will continue until 8 p.m., with family meeting and greeting friends beginning at 6 p.m. in the chapel of Trout Funeral Home of Perry, 1408 North Seventh Street. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 8, 2016 at the Trout Funeral Home Chapel Perry. Gloria Brown, a close family friend, will officiate. Arrangements have been entrusted to Trout Funeral Home of Perry. Billy was born on October 23, 1936 on the farm near Billings, Oklahoma to Roy and Mabel Vollmer. He attended school at Billings and is a Billings High School graduate. Billy married Laveda Sue Wentz June 28, 1957 in Enid, Oklahoma and they later divorced.
In 1980 Billy fell in love again and married Brenda McMasters. They later divorced but remained friends and up until his passing, the two visited with one another a couple of times a week. He worked for a construction company that was building I-35, then drove a truck for Smith Trucking for several years. He then moved to Laverne, Oklahoma where he continued working for Smith Trucking. The family then moved to Woodward, Oklahoma and he accepted employment with Bill Hodges Trucking, moving drilling equipment. He moved his family back to Perry in 1973 to help his dad sell the farm and move into town. Billy then was employed as a Shop Foreman at Fleet Sales. Billy later bought a couple of 18-wheeler trucks and hauled grain and wheat. He was employed as a truck pusher for Unit Drilling Company in Moore, Oklahoma, hauling and setting up drilling equipment. He retired at an early age, 59, from Unit Drilling and moved to Porum, Oklahoma on Lake Eufaula until 2006 when he moved back to Perry to finish his days closer to his family. He loved old cars and recently bought a ‘51 Plymouth. Bill was a private man who liked watching old western movies and fishing on lake Eufaula.
He had a great love for his dogs: Little Bit, Rufus and Sammy and also loved cats, of which he cared for several as pets.
He is survived by two sons: Randy Vollmer and his wife Brenda of Perry, and Rodney Vollmer and his wife Courtney, of Edmond; one daughter, Vicki Simon of Sand Springs, OK; six grandchildren, Brandon Vollmer and wife Mandy, Ryon Vollmer and wife Laura, all of Perry, Bernard Alan Simon III of Sand Springs, and Luke, Kaitlynn and Dane Vollmer of Edmond, Oklahoma; five great-grandchildren: Tucker, Sawyer, Walker, Callen and Carsen Vollmer, all of Perry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Shirley Splane and one son-in-law, Bernard Alan Simon II.
