Billy Joe Hall
August 4, 1929 – January 31, 2024
Billy Joe Hall’s earthly body died peacefully at the age of 94 on January 31, 2024, in Ponca City, Oklahoma.
Born on August 4, 1929, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, to Everett Glen Hall and Willie Harman Hall. He grew up on a Farm/ranch near Hennepin, OK, until the age of 12. Moving to Cushing, Oklahoma, and later to Guthrie, Oklahoma where he graduated Guthrie High School in 1949. He played and lettered in football, basketball, track, and baseball as a starting pitcher.
Bill found Jesus Christ in 1949 and was baptized in the Church of Christ in Guthrie Oklahoma. Later Bill was baptized in the First Baptist Church of Ponca City as a witness to the world where he remained an active member until his passing into Heaven.
Being a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korea 14 months during 1952-1953. He had attained the rank of Sergeant by the time he was discharged.
A very diverse work history includes J.C Penny, Earnest Brothers Shoe Store, Mid-America Pipeline Company and Conoco Refinery in Ponca City where he retired after 22 years in 1994 at the age of 65.
Bill and Bertha E Beck were married on June 24, 1956, in Ceres, OK, at a country church. Bertha passed away on February 19, 2021.
Bill was a member of the Masonic Lodge #83, VFW and several civic organizations in Ponca City.
He enjoyed playing softball in the church league with his grandsons, fishing, camping, traveling, hunting and fixing things with nothing. He and Bertha loved the “Farm” where she grew up and made it their second home.
Surviving: son William R Hall and wife Jaynell Ponca City, OK; daughter Sharon S Cooper and husband Bill, Northlake, TX
Grandchildren: Jay Ferguson (Kim), Scott Ferguson (Natasha); Becky Pontious; Chad Hall (Robyn), Jeremy Hall (Cristie), Tony Cooper (Julie); Jennifer Richmond, Andy Cooper (Carrie). 28 Great grandchildren: 12 great-great-grandchildren, several nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Bertha; daughter Cathy J Ferguson; son-in-law Bob L Ferguson; great-great granddaughter Kynzlee Penka; Brothers Jim G Hall, Lloyd (Pete) Hall; sisters Hazel Hall Turner and Virginia Baird.
Bill’s funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Monday, February 5, 2024, at the First Baptist Church, 218 S 6th St, Ponca City, OK 74601. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery, 1206 S. Waverly, Ponca City, OK 74601. Honorary pallbearers: Jennifer Richmond and Becky Pontious.
