Obituary for Billie Proctor

Billie Proctor of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Thursday morning, December 19, 2013, in the Community Health Center in Wakita, Oklahoma, at the age of 97 years.
Billie Proctor was born on April 17, 1916, in Nashville, Kansas, to Frank and Kate (Osborn) Swingle. She grew up in Zenda, Kansas and attended Zenda Public Schools graduating in 1034. She continued her education by attending Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in education. Following her education she began her teaching career in a rural school near Buffalo, Oklahoma. She married H. Hollis Proctor in 1940 in Buffalo and she continued teaching elementary school. In 1945 she began working as the secretary for the district manager of the Oklahoma Highway Department. After a year they began their family and she returned to the home to care for them. In 1961 they moved to Wichita, Kansas, and she began teaching elementary school for the Wichita Public Schools and retired in 1975. Following retirement they returned to Buffalo to make their home. Her husband preceded her in death and she continued living in Buffalo until 1999 when she moved to Blackwell to live with her daughter, Nancy. In 2010 she moved to Wakita, Oklahoma. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed gardening, reading and family, especially her many grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Johns and husband Walt of Blackwell, and Sherrill Proctor of Blackwell; four grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Marie Brown; two brothers, Ira and Doc; and two sisters, Johnnie and Jean.
Graveside services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 27th in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Zenda, Kansas, with her grandchildren serving as honorary casketbearers.
A memorial has been established in her honor with the Community Health Center in Wakita in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
