Obituary for Betty Underside

Betty J. Underside, resident of Ponca City, OK, passed away September 13th, 2014 at Ponca City Nursing and Rehab Center. She was 94.

The service will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, September 18, 2014 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Ratterman officiating. A Vigil service will be held at 7 pm, Wednesday, September 17th with Deacon Dick Robinson officiating. Burial will follow Thursday’s Mass of Christian Burial at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Ponca City, OK . Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.

Betty was born Elizabeth June Keating on June 29th, 1920 to Laurence and Blanche Keating in Ponca City. A lifelong resident of Ponca City, Betty graduated from Ponca City High School in 1938.

She married Floyd Underside on April 25th, 1941, in Ponca City, and together they had two sons, James and Dennis. Floyd and Betty farmed in rural Ponca before moving to the city of Ponca in 1958. Betty was a long time manager of St. Mary’s cafeteria, where she loved working with the children. She was also precinct captain. Betty was an avid gardener, loved to crochet, and was a good friend to many.

She is survived by her son Dennis Underside and his wife Carol of Manteno, Illinois; granddaughter, Shannon Underside of Illinois; and numerous other grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd, her son James, her granddaughter Tina, her grandson Daren, her sister Peggy, and her brothers Jack, Joe and Pat, as well as many other nieces and nephews.
