Betty Louise McVay
(April 30, 1924 – October 20, 2015)
Betty Louise (Duncan) McVay was born April 30, 1924 in Benton County, Arkansas to Eura and Ruby (Scoggins) Duncan. She attended Marrs Hill County one room school for first grade. After consolidation into Bentonville, Arkansas, she attended public school there until the nineth grade. Her parents moved to the Vaughn, Arkansas community and she attended the rest of her school years there until 1942.
On March 5, 1942, she married Dail E. McVay in Decatur, Arkansas. The ceremony was preformed by her uncle the Reverend John Scoggins pastor of the First Baptist Church in Decatur. They lived in Healing Springs, Arkansas until 1944 when they moved to Ponca City. There, Dale went to work for Conoco. They had two daughters, Wilma Jean Leatherman Chandler and Diana Joyce Cobb. Betty Lou took an active part in her girls’ school and camp fire girls. She was a member of Kay Bees Home and Retention Club and Dahlia Garden Club. She was also a member of the Woodlands Christian Church and of Seekers S. S. Class. She also served as Diaconate and Captain of Diaconate.
She enjoyed being a homemaker, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and was a gifted seamstress who crafted many beautiful and artistic creations.
She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her daughters, her granddaughter, Kacy Justice, sister, Joy Anderson, great-grandson, Max Justice, great-granddaughter, Ellie Justice, grandson, Barry Leatherman and wife Jana, great-grandson, Tyler Leatherman and wife Amy, great-grandson, Dawson Leatherman, great-great-granddaughter, Laney Leatherman, grandson, Brian Leatherman, and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Graveside services for Betty will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 23, 2015 at Resthaven Memorial Park.
