Bettie Ross McDaniel was born August 11, 1928 and raised in Ponca City, the daughter of R.E. Ross and Leta Ross. She passed away at the age of 91 on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at her home.
Bettie married W.F. (Cotton) McDaniel and they were married over 50 years. He preceded her in death in 2001. They have a son Scott McDaniel and a daughter Sherrie Flegler.
She worked as a telephone operator, ran the concession stand at the Poncan Theater, and was employed as an assistant for Dr. E.J. Crowder and Dr. Clugston for several years.
In her early years, she enjoyed water-skiing, ice skating, and bowling for nearly 20 years. She belonged, to the Jaycee Jaynes, Just-A-Mere Club, Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, American Legion, Ponca Play House, Ponca City Country Club, Poncan Theater, and volunteered for Meals on Wheels.
Always being well dressed and accessorized, Bettie will be remembered for her sense of style. Betty loved to dance and would often sit near the piano player Cotton also loved to grow his champion roses and then bring Bettie some for dinner. She enjoyed very much playing cards with her lady friends every week for many years, but never enjoyed losing. She loved all animals, especially her cat Simba. Bettie had an active life to the end and will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. She was a gregarious people person and befriended folks from every stratum of life. There was nothing she would not do for her family, friends, or someone in need.
Bettie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Cotton McDaniel, sister Mary Jansen, brothers: Jim Ross, Tom Ross, and Bill Ross, brothers-in-law: Jack Jansen and Ken Daily, as well as her longtime friend Walter Postelwait.
She is survived by her daughter Sherrie Flegler and husband Vic of Tulsa, OK, son Scott McDaniel and wife Cathy of San Diego, CA, and sister Wanda Daily of Dallas, TX, Grandsons: Shelby Odum of Wichita, KS, John Flegler and wife Marnie of Tulsa, OK, Jason Flegler and wife Joely of Tulsa, OK, Granddaughters: Lori Fowler and husband Michael of Ft. Worth, Tx, Jamie Jamison of Oceanside, CA, 14 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
Friends and loved ones may pay their respects at the funeral home on Monday, December 9, 2019 from 12-8pm with a celebration of Bettie’s life to be held at 2pm Tuesday, December 10, 2019 in the chapel at Trout Funeral Home & Crematory with Dr. Rev. Glenn Nestlerode of First Christian Church officiating. Following the celebration, Bettie will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Cotton at Resthaven Memorial Park.
