Bettie Stowers
(June 25, 1930 – October 17, 2016)
Bettie LaVon (Lockwood) Stowers was born June 25, 1930 in Blackwell, Oklahoma to Vera and Bert Lockwood. Bettie graduated from Blackwell High School in 1948 and soon married Guy E. Howe on May 30, 1948. The couple lived in Blackwell for several years, then moved to Tonkawa to open Southwestern Electronics. Bettie spent the next 12 years raising four wonderful children; Guy Russell, Roger Wesley, Ronald Scott and Vicki LaVon. She continued her education in accounting by attending Northern Oklahoma College. Her newfound knowledge assisted her in helping Guy with their business, and as his secretary. Taking trips with Guy to Europe was a highlight of her life. They also supported and performed mission work for 3M – Mexico Multiple Missions.
After the passing of Guy E. Howe, Bettie married Bill Stowers, owner of B & L Foundry, on October11, 1996. Bettie took time out of retirement to help Bill on the farm, becoming well acquainted with their cattle and helping him during harvest time. They resided in their home in Tonkawa until moving into an assisted living facility in Ponca City. They later moved into Willow Haven Nursing Home in Tonkawa until her death of natural causes on Monday, October 17, 2016.
Bettie was a long time member of First Christian Church, now known as Christian Life Church of Tonkawa. She was actively involved in the women’s fellowship at her church and worked with Christian Youth Fellowship for some time. She loved fishing and went on several camping trips with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands Guy E. Howe and Bill Stowers, brother Evart Lockwood, son Roger W. Howe, daughter Vicki L. Furr, step-sister Darlene Jansson.
She is survived by her brothers; Byron Lockwood and wife Jolene; Doug Cline and wife Jessica; sons: Guy R. Howe and wife Joyce, Ronnie Howe and wife Patty, daughter-in-law Dessa Howe-Ennis. Three grandchildren; Jennifer Baldwin, Tracy Howe and Becky Howe. Three great-grandchildren; Octavia, Kyler and Asher, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 pm Sunday, October 23, 2016 at Christian Life Church of Tonkawa.
