Basil was born August 28, 1929 in Houston, Texas, the only child of Basil C. and Jewel Taylor. He spent his early childhood in Galveston, Texas. In 1938, the family moved to Fort Worth, Texas where he resided through his high school years. He attended St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa in 1948. He then transferred to The University of Texas in Austin, graduating in 1952 with a BBA degree. Also, in 1952, he was employed by Continental Oil Company (Conoco) in Fort Worth as a Tab operator.
He was married to his cheerleader, Rachel Janet Roth, in 1953 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Fort Worth. In 1960, the family moved to Ponca City as he was transferred to the newly formed Central Computer Department. He retired in 1987 from Conoco after 35 years of service. He held a variety of assignments in the department, including Director of Computer Operations, Coordinator of Subsidiary Data Processing and at retirement, manager of the Communications Department.
After retirement, he founded the Taylormark Card Company (where quality and cost are about the same). He played a lot of golf (2 aces and a trillion bogeys or more). He enjoyed volunteer work at St. Mary’s Cemetery and Ponca City Medical Center. Basil was a life-time Knights of Columbus member.
