Obituary for Barbara Simpson

Barbara Jean Simpson, resident of Ponca City, OK, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2014, at her home. She was 84.
The graveside service will be held at 10:00 am, Friday June 6, 2014 at the Foraker Cemetery with Rev. Charley Hudspeth, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.
Barbara was born on July 16, 1929 to Benjamin Harrison Calvert and Theresa Synder in Ponca City, OK. She was married to Melvin Simpson on November 17, 1945.
Barbara worked as a substitute Para Professional for the Wichita Public Schools for 20 years. After retiring in 1989, the Simpsons moved to Ponca City where they were married for 67 years. They spent many winters at their home in south Texas. Mel had a band and Barbara enjoyed touring with him all over the Rio Grande Valley and South Padre Island. The Simpsons loved to travel and visited all over the USA, Canada, Europe and spent several summers in Colorado. Another love of Barbara’s was gardening and she had a beautiful garden wherever she was.
She is survived by one daughter, Sherry Simpson; 2 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one sister, and an infant stillborn daughter.
