Alvin Henry Harris
July 22, 1942 – December 27, 2020
Alvin Henry Harris Jr., 78, entered Heaven’s gate on December 27, 2020, joining his beloved wife, who entered Heaven on December 23, 2020. They both passed due to complications related to COVID-19. A Graveside Ceremony will be held Friday, February 12, 2021, at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Ponca City. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, 505 W. Grand Ave., Ponca City, OK 74601.
Al was born on July 22, 1942, in Nogales, Arizona, as one of five children. He joined the Navy at the age of 17 and proudly served his country. He met the love of his life, Doris Lee James, and they were married on May 6, 1964, at which time he decided not to re-enlist in the Navy and pursued a career in the construction field. Al was a loving and supportive father to his children Sherry and Kevin, and a grandfather to Abby, Travis, and Ben. He has five great-grandchildren Kyler, Alizabell, Kayden, Whyatt, and Zoe.
He is survived by his oldest sister Nona whom he shared a special relationship, especially in most recent years. Al enjoyed family time boating, fishing, playing in the pool, and driving his grandchildren and dogs around in the golf cart and tractor on his property. He was a successful businessman, talented remodeler, woodworker, and contractor who could do or fix almost anything. He had a passion for teaching and mentoring others who wanted to learn.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in their name to Donation: Humane Society of Southern Arizona. Al and Dee both shared a tremendous love for animals and showed their compassion for them whenever they could. They would be grateful to know donations have been given to help the many animals in need. Remember this, those we love can never be more than a thought away…. for as long as there is a memory and love, they live in our hearts to stay.
