Alverna Sue Engle of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Saturday afternoon, March 3, 2018, at her home in Blackwell at the age of 81 years.
Alverna Sue Engle was born on February 13, 1937, in Tucson, Arizona, to Alvin Leroy and Elma (Foust) Sanger. She grew up in Blackwell, Oklahoma and graduated from Blackwell High School in 1955. During the summer of 1954, Sue met Dean Francis Engle at the Newkirk skating rink. They were married on February 5, 1955 in Blackwell, and were together for 63 years.
Sue loved to buy antiques, enjoyed working on her flower beds, and liked watching Oklahoma University football games and the Oklahoma City Thunder. She always had a big smile on her face.
She is survived by her husband, Dean Engle of Blackwell; her son, Rick Engle of Wakita; two grandchildren, Cory Engle and wife Jessica of Blackwell, and Kristin English and husband Rodney of Krum, Texas; and four great-grandchildren, Caitlyn, Courtney, Makayla, and Lincoln.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Alvin Leroy “Butch” Sanger.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 7th at the Blackwell Cemetery with Chaplain Tom Howard of Hospice North Central Oklahoma officiating.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her honor with Hospice of North Central Oklahoma in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
