Alpha “Jay” Morse

November 26, 1925 – July 27, 2019

Alpha Jay Morse, age 93, of Ponca City, Oklahoma passed away July 27, 2019 at Integris Baptist Medical Center, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday August 3, 2019 at Trout Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Francis Bartley officiating. Jay will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memorial Park following the service.

Jay was born on November 26, 1925 in Hutton Valley, Missouri to Alpha Jason and Dorothy (Gulley) Morse. He grew up in Hutton Valley and graduated from Willow Springs High School. After graduation, Jay enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Jay was sent to boot camp at Camp Pendleton, then stationed at Guam and saw action in the battle for Iwo Jima. 

After his discharge, he returned to Missouri and began working construction jobs. In 1948 he met Gene Perryman while working in Rangely CO. They were married on October 31, 1948.

In 1950 he enrolled at the University of Oklahoma and graduated in 1954 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He took a job with Conoco in Ponca City where he worked until his retirement in 1987. With the exception of three years when he was transferred to Lake Charles, LA, Jay and his family lived in Ponca City.
After retirement Jay loved to play golf and attending OU sporting events with the family, in particular football. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren Kyle and Valerie.

Survivors include daughters Becky Morse of Oklahoma City, Laura Morse of Culver City, CA, daughter-in-law Marilyn Young and grandchildren Kyle and Valerie Morse of Chandler, OK, brother Ted Morse, sisters Karen Morse Johnson, Elsie Ann Morse McCoglin, Jolene Morse Carson and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, wife Gene, son Pat and sister Mary Lou Henry.
